Description

Ask anyone in a Punjabi household about their ‘Winter is coming’ moment? High chances that you will hear are ‘Grandma visiting the local stores to procure the finest ingredients for Pinni’. I am no exception to this. In fact, I feel the pinnis are not just food but a plethora of emotions, love, and care which grandmothers and mothers put in handcrafting each delicious sphere. Grandma and I would spend winter afternoons ensuring that the Pinni mixture was up to the mark. I would use all my skills to deduce how the mix tasted. This same mix would later be transformed into those magical spheres oozing with the love and ghee that Grandma so lovingly used to add to the pinnis. Come evenings and I would sit huddled with Grandma in her comfortable quilt, listening in sheer astonishment, her tales from childhood and the life back then. These stories would be always accompanied by generous quantities of pinnis and a glass of hot milk.

I am very proud of my heritage, which by extension, also defines my food preferences. I love creating recipes that are clean, soul-nourishing, and not to mention a link to my roots.

Given my love for innovating my favorite foods to make them more nutritious and healthy, I have used freshly procured hazelnuts for making these pinnis. And there is a reason for calling them
superfoods: 100g of good quality hazelnuts contain 15 g proteins, 60g of healthy fats that are essential for bodily functions, 10g of fiber that aids food digestion and helps you keep full for longer. Also, the desi A2 ghee used is known for its medicinal properties and just the right amount of sweetness that would leave you wanting more. I have tried to preserve the soul of this deliciousness. Gobble one and feel them melting in your mouth.
