Adding taste and flavor to our non-vegetarian pickle menu, we at Masala Monk present you a pickle from the rarest of the poultry breeds in India “Kadaknath”, from the foothills of the Himalayas.
Kadaknath chicken meat is quite a treasure trove of taste and health benefits simultaneously. It is very different from the other indigenous or Desi chicken breeds of India. Originated and raised by tribes of Jhabua and Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, India, Kadaknath chicken is whole black in color, hence also called Kalimasi. The main characteristics of this chicken breed are the color of meat, skin, and bones, making it quite unique. It is one of the three breeds of Black meat Chicken (BMC)available across the world.
Appreciated for its distinctive taste, texture, and flavor, Kadaknath meat is also highly nutritious and has medicinal values. The meat offers 25% protein, which is much higher than 18-20% found in other chicken breeds across the country. It contains less than 1% fat which is way lower than 15 to 25% found in any broiler chicken. It is also a good source of vitamin B (B1, B2, B6, B12), vitamin E, Vitamin C, calcium, and 18 amino acids.
Various benefits of this rare delicacy are –
1. Helps to increase blood cells and hemoglobin
2. It is effective in treating women’s sterility, Menoxenic (abnormal menstruation), habitual abortion
3. Aids in curing pulmonary problems
4. Treats headaches, post-delivery problems, asthma, and nephritis
5. Treat chronic diseases and has medicinal value in homeopathy and a particular nervous disorder
7. Helps to strengthen the overall immune system
8. Helps in better kidney functioning or proper blood flow, best for TB, and heart disease.
With so much to offer in terms of distinctive taste, health, and nutritional values, Kadaknath meat demand has increased over the year. Their poultry farms are now located across the country, as these birds can survive in hot semi-arid climatic conditions with temperatures ranging from 12 to 42 degrees celsius.
Along with the perfect climatic conditions, the upper Himalayan region provides a much moderate and cleaner environment for raising these wild birds as they need a large open space to roam freely. We at Masala monk source our meat from the largest Kadaknath farm in the Indian Himalayas. It has one of the most stringent and elaborate farming practices around, to boost the production of these rare poultry breeds.
